Flex Family, VIA

2010

The FLEX concept is an alternative to traditional wood curving, enhanced by renewing the corresponding formal language. To the three successive operations that make up the traditional technique (wood steaming, shaping in a mould, drying), I developed a forth technique that consists removing material from the main piece, then inserting another piece cut in the needed radius. The two pieces are then glued together under pressure. Aesthetically the result allows

to evaluate the creative potential of this technique to classical furniture archetype. Imagine for instance a ‘FLEX’ bookcase, commode or a bench.
